 1) JOB STRESS
Job stress and career changes, what to do? It is apparent that job stress has come to the forefront of health news as an issue to be dealt with. Recently,Yahoo RSS had an article on the 10 most stress free jobs.
At the end of the article it suggested reducing personal stress too, but did not go into detail. That's where I come in. Of course I have a little axe to grind, but I get that out of the way in this first podcast.
Up front, my peave is the promulgation of news that isn't news we need to hear, but just stuff that triggers the hardwire system in our brain to listen to bad or negative stuff! Whether you agree or not, it is an interesting topic, and I will be talking about ways to release stress in future podcasts.

 2) MORE STRESS Top of Page
Job stress isn't just bad for you; it's also bad for your company. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, stress-related disorders are fast becoming the most prevalent reason for worker disability. Job stress and related problems cost American companies an estimated $200 billion or more annually through absenteeism, turnover, accidents, etc.
In this podcast, I discuss some ways employees can reduce workplace stress.

 3) OBESITY & OVERWEIGHT Top of Page
Today I'd like to take a moment and discuss the problems in the United States of being obese or overweight. If you look at the TV commercials read a newspaper ads for weight loss and look at the dietary supplements and programs it is obvious that this a large and important medical issue. Just how large may be judged from the following information here are the statistics total number of overweight adults in the United States from 20 to 74 years of age approximately 50 million Americans were about one third. Overweight adult females from 20 to 74 years of age 32,000,000 as of 1990; and adult males 20 to 74 years of age 26,000,000. The percentage of adult American women trying to lose weight at any given time is between 35 and 40%. The percentage of adult American men trying to lose weight at any given time is 20 to 24%. The percentage of cardiovascular disease cases related to obesity is almost 70%. The effect of obesity on high blood pressure more than doubles one's chances of developing hypertension. Being overweight is also a risk factor for the following health problems: diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, stroke, hypertension, gallbladder disease, and some forms of cancers such as breast Cancer gallbladder cancer and uterine cancer. In overweight can also contribute to high cholesterol menstrual irregularities pregnancy complication hirsutism and depression. According to the NDDIC (National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse) Obese people also have a 50 to 100% increase of risk of death from all causes the health risks of carrying extra weight are enormous. In my hypnosis practice I've treated people for eating disorders and have helped many people establish new patterns of eating and living that have allowed them to take weight off automatically and keep it off permanently. I have found many reasons diets don't work. You can listen to those reasons in a downloadable MP3 format on my website it's free download and enjoy it. Simply go to my website at gr8-hypnosis.com and follow the instructions for the download.

 4) KIDS' MINDS Top of Page
I have been asked by several teachers to give talks at several PTA meetings regarding the develolpment of the human brain from birth to about 14 years of age. They felt that the explaination they heard at one of my seminars was too valuable and parents as well teachers ought to know.
I'm not a doctor or neuro-specialist, nor am I a psychologist, but this information is more or less common knowledge to well-trained and practicing hypnotists, particularly hypnotherapists.
I would guess that any hypnotist that has worked with children would be well aware of the information I am going to give you, however, I do not believe that it is common knowledge to other fields because they do not deal with the unconscious mind directly. In order for a hypnotherapist to be able to deal with their client's issues, each hypnotherapist must understand what he or she is doing with the client, and it is obvious when dealing with children.
Because the explaination I gave those teachers was fairly detailed and included drawings of the developing mind, I cannot give you the information here, on this blog However, it is free, so if you would like me to send it to you as a download or attachment to an email. please and put in the subject line "Kids."

There is no obligation, I just have too much to say in this brief blog to get it all out here.

 5) COPIED NUTRITIOINAL INFORMATION Top of Page
"...your weight-loss regimen consists of giving up pizza and cheeseburgers,...reconsider your strategy. ...you don't have to diet again.... you must ...spot the ...nutritional traps that ...plague health-conscious consumers.... Seemingly nutritious ...foods abound with added sugars, preservatives, and dangerous, belt-breaking fats....14 most punishing health ruses ...replaced ... with delicious alternatives."
This is good information, Sorry, but they limit me to 50 words, so I had to chop it up, but the entire article is worth the read. check out what you've been denying yourself!

6) ALL OF THE MOST POPULAR DIETS ARE GOOD, UNTIL...

The other day I read a report on the most popular diet plans. I'm not going to mention their names here, but they include the low-carb diet, the modified low-carb diet, and two food delivery diet plans.

The report acknowledged that they were all GOOD and the people on them lost weight...as long as they stayed on the plan.

My attitude toward diets is that THEY ARE A SHORT-TERM FIX FOR A LONG-TERM PROBLEM. If dieting were long term it would be called eating, not dieting

Other reports cite at least two different doctors who both said essentially the same thing -- losing weight is 10% food control and 90% mind control.

So, now we have it, scientific wisdom is coming around to what we (hypnotists) knew all along. For permanent weight control you need to make profound fundamental changes in the unconscious mind!

How simple that is for hypnotists who have focused on weight control!

There are three things you can do with your weight:

o Lose weight o Maintain weight o Gain weight

All three are achieved through calorie consumption, by either consuming fewer, the same or more calories than you burn.

Calories are everything. Forget carbohydrates, fats, protein and everything you've heard about diet and nutrition. Weight control is and has always been about calories. Nothing else comes close. It's not a gimmick or a fad - it's the proven science of the human body. Unfortunately, counting calories is difficult, time consuming and distracting. Who wants to count calories? That said, it's important to have a basic understanding of how much fuel you are providing your body, and how much your body is using.  7) TOUGH TIMES

Earlier in my podcasts I suggested that one way to reduce personal stress was to avoid the news media. I suggested that the media plays on our hardwired response to bad news and brings up emotions that are inappropriate to the circumstances.

With the tough times in the news it's even more important to avoid the negative play the news media is shoving at us.

I am not suggesting that we hide our heads in the sand, but rather that we "pull" needed news to us and refuse the "push" news. I would also recommend that we reframe the information to give it less stress and negative power. None of us needs this type of stress or negative power. That's like dragging an anchor behind us to improve our forward momentum.

For example, if the news tells us that the unemployment rate is 6.5%, then reframe that statistic to say the employment rate is 93.5%!
Same information, but one is designed to provoke (intentionally or not) stress through a hardwired negative emotion, and the other may or may not, depending on your personal circumstances. The point is to take control of what you are taking in, and the stress it creates.

 8) NEGATIVE EMOTIONS
I saw a statement that I thought was worth repeating, here it is; "The most important lesson is that your negative emotions like being angry, afraid or confused can and will in time rule your life. The ability to replace this very destructive mindset with a positive one ruled by strength, power and courage makes the difference between failure and accomplishment."

That said, the question then becomes one of how to let go of these emotions and how to replace them with the positive thoughts and emotions we need to succeed.

In this comment I am only going to address the first one, anger.

Anger is a good emotions just like the starter motor on a car is a good motor, but it isn't good and it wasn't designed for driving the car down the highway.
The starter motor is good for getting something going, and that's the good purpose to anger.
Anger is the starer motor when we feel that something is not fair. When we feel that there is an injustice that violates our sense of fairness.

We can acknowldge the anger by identifying it, determining what course of action we can take, if any, to make things fair, and finally, if we cannot make it fair, to acknowledge that fact also and let it go. All this and more can be found in the book "The Secret Language of Feelings" by Cal Banyan. You can purchase this book here on gr8-hypnosis.com.

Normally I don't promote stuff on these blogs, but this is a great book for anyone wanting to know how our feeling work, and what to do with them.

 9) MORE THAN CHICKEN!
There are 38 ingredients in a McNugget; many of them made from corn. Further down the list there are the mono, diandtriglycerides, and the emulsifiers that keep the fats and the water from separating. More corn flour is used to make the batter, and the hydrogenated oil in which the nuggets are fried can come from soybeans, canola or cottonseed, depending on the market price.

It gets worse: a number of the ingredients come from petroleum products, to keep the items from spoiling or ‘ looking strange' after months in the freezer or on the road. If you are truly worried, look up these ingredients: sodium aluminum phosphate; mono-calcium phosphate, sodium acid pyrophosphate, and calcium lactate. These are used to keep the animal and vegetable fats from turning rancid.

 10) CHANGE TO HEALTHIER EATING HABITS

  1. Substitute green tea or water for your cup of coffee. If you want to cut back on caffine, just brew your tea for 30 seconds and throw it away, then rebrew the same tea (leaves or bag) for another 30 seconds. You'll have a great tasting tea and almost no caffine!
  2. Instead of choosing a sugary snack, eat a fresh fruit or celery sticks with a tablespoon of peanut or other nut butter.
  3. Choose whole-grain bread instead of white bread. This follows the white starch rule that if its white it's wrong (except califlower).
  4. Whole-grain pasta is a delicious substitute for standard pasta.
  5. Cut back on one unhealthy food every day so you don't feel overwhelmed. This gradual substitution will allow your taste buds and body to adapt gradually to healthier food, and THAT makes it easier when it's time to begin The MindCoach Automatic Weight Loss System, the Home Hypnosis Party Plan, or just going it on your own.
  6. Get rid of the toxins that have been building ion your system for years. More on this later, or email me at jim(AT)gr8-hypnosis.com (change the (AT) for the @ sign)

 12) DOUGHNUT FOR BREAKFAST
Every once in a while we all might grab a doughnut for breakfast, pick fries instead of a salad, or go through a drive-thru for dinner. That's okay; in fact, occasional indulgence is an important part of permanent weight loss. For the full article, please click HERE. The real weight setbacks happen when apparently healthy foods like salads give you enough fat and sodium to rival the worst burgers in America.

13) A HEALTHIER RULE FOR SUPERMARKET SHOPPERS:
The shorter the label's ingredients list, the more real food you'll get.
Why? Long ingredient lists are adding chemicals and the additives are replacing of some of the actual food. Some of these additives have are associated with, ulcers, neurological damage, even cancer.
1) Carrageenan is an ulcer-causing colloidal substance extracted from seaweed, chiefly used as an emulsifying and stabilizing ingredient in foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, unfortunately it may be found in yogurts, so, check the labels, especially if you're a yogert lover. (Maybe it's time to make your own yogurt, it's pretty easy). and
2) Insect-derived cochineal, a red dye prepared from the dried bodies of the females of the cochineal insect, (Dactylopius coccus,) extract (found in fruit juices). M-m-m, Yum Yum. Drink it down kids!

14) EFT FOR NEGATIVE EMOTIONS
As impressionable children, we collect many unnecessary rejections, resentments and other emotional baggage (negative associations and expectations). I teach parents, children, and adults suffering from negative experiences to use Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) as an emotional first aid technique soon after these negative events occur, or are recognized for what they are.
This technique instantly unloads negative associations, which might otherwise limit expectations, behavior, and achievement throughout a lifetime.
Because children under the age of 8 are, for the most part, in a constant state of hypnosis, and negative associations happen every day at home, school and in public, it is helpful to neutralize the expectations as soon as they are recognized.
By using EFT while negative issues are fresh, adults, as well as, children, have the opportunity to mitigate the negative issue, thereby lessening the emotional wound, which might remain for years to come.
Using these easily learned techniques, parents, children, and anyone suffering from negative or traumatic events are able to genuinely, quickly and easily move through the issue to a more positive and balanced emotional state.

 15) CORE SERVICE VS CUSTOMER SERVICE
Core Service vs Customer Service, what's the difference?

If you don't know, your customer can't tell.

These statements might help clarify the differences.

Core Service satisfies a customer.
Customer Service delights customers and exceeds their expectations.

Core Service attracts a customer for the first time.
Customer Service makes a relationship that keeps a customer returning over and over.

Core Service is product satisfaction.
Customer Service is process satisfaction.

Core Service is what you do.
Customer Service is how you do it.

Core Service is when a customer say's, "everything was fine."
Customer Service is when a customer says, "(S)he) treated me like his/her only customer."

Core Service is what customers see.
Customer Service is what customers feel.

You know the difference when you see it. Even if you can't define it.

Businesses with high quality service:

  1. Increase their market shares,
  2. Have significantly higher profits, and
  3. Generate business through referrals,
with purpose, and by design.

Those companies understand the difference between a "what" and a "how". Companies that are failing or failing to prosper don't understand this difference.

  16) SUPERMARKET SIGNS, WHAT THEY DON'T MEAN

Here are some clues to some commonly abused terms in the food industry.

Product of the USA
Means: A new required label as of September 2008, this Country of Origin Labeling is designed to inform consumers about the origins of their turf meats. For meat, it will indicate where the meat was raised, sometimes including multiple countries or an indication that the meat was brought to the United States for slaughter. Hm-m-m that's clear!

Organic
Means: On fowl watch for a foul! Agriculture has seen the potential profit boon of charging an average of twice the price for organic chickens, and has secured the coveted (and often pricey) USDA stamp. Look for two certification stamps-the Secretary of Agriculture seal and the USDA Organic seal-confirming that the animals were fed organic feed and had access to pasture.

Free Range
Means: By definition, free-range chickens must have access to the outdoors for at least 51 percent of their lives, but the USDA, approves each manufacturer's "free-range" claim case by case, and does not strictly define "outdoors." Free range could mean anything from open acreage to a tiny pen. What do you think?
